Fitzroy Duet (Part 2)
Fitzroy Duet (Part 2)
Part two of our Fitzroy Duet is a home you wouldn't know was there. From the street, all that marks the mother's house is a modest gate beside her daughter's new addition. Pass through it and something quite extraordinary reveals itself — a hidden home built around a life in art.
Mum is a printmaker, and that shaped the design concept from day one. A narrow lean-to at the rear of the original weatherboard cottage was demolished and replaced with a new two-storey addition — averaging 3.3m wide and 12.7m in length — housing a bedroom, a stair hall that doubles as an intimate gallery, a bathroom full of personality, and on the first floor, a dedicated printmaking studio complete with etching press. A home that takes its owner's creative practice as seriously as she does. A modest sliding door at the rear of the front dwelling is the quiet connecting note of this Fitzroy Duet. True Story.
